Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of over a hundred sentimental and humorous verses. The volume contains a large number of charades and riddles, including an Enigmatical list of flowers; enigmas of musical instruments; a list of arts and sciences; and a list of classes of trees. Other light entries include Lines on a dentist and several anagrams and humorous epitaphs. The collection also includes serious and sentimental poems, including On an infant which died before baptism; On the death of a believer; Ode by T. Campbell recited by Mr Young at the dinner in honor of Mr Kemble on his farewell to the stage; and poems by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Sir Walter Scott, and others copied from periodicals.

John Philip Kemble (1 February 1757 – 26 February 1823) was a British actor. He was born into a theatrical family as the eldest son of Roger Kemble, actor-manager of a touring troupe.
